Lauren had a sweep done by the Midwife, and went in to labour at about 1am. The day was a blur but after going in to the hospital with around 4 60 second surges every 10 mins, Lauren was somehow only 3cm dilated. The 3cm really threw Lauren and at that stage, her saying ‘my head has gone’ But, 3 hours later, she had put her headphones on, focussed on her breathing and got to 7cm dilated much to the surprise of the midwife. Lauren was so calm, gave me a smile and waved. 3 hours later full dilation, and Lauren had kept breathing through the surges. We ended up having to have a hormone drip, her contractions slowed down.
We went with what felt right. Hypnobirthing gave us the confidence to make decisions and feel in control the whole time.
Whilst waiting for the drip Lauren just breathed again through the urge to push and didn’t. With me force feeding her food between surges, once they became more regular. 20 mins later and baby was delivered. Whilst I don’t think humming down the baby became ever a thing, the ability to go from pushing to calm breathing was unbelievable and helped Lauren recover between surges. 5,4,3,2,1 and she was completely calm. I honestly think she was amazing.
Bottom line, we both think that your course and Hypnobirthing played a huge part in keeping really calm and getting through a long day. We recommend you to everyone!
